” And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:” — Mark 6:8
Your current weight is the result of the number of calories that you have taken into your body versus the number of calories that you have burned. If you seek to lower your weight, then you must burn more calories (by engaging in more vigorous physical activities), or take in fewer calories (by eating more sensibly), or both. It’s as simple as that.
Write down (in your journal) your estimate of the number of calories that you consume on an average day. Then, throughout the day, count the calories you actually consume. Finally, compare your original estimate to the actual calorie count.
Attached below is a link to a website that will help you track the calories you consume and many more tools to help you get healthy.

This makes it seem so easy! Do you think the calories burned counter on the treadmill/elliptical machines are accurate? Hard to determine how many you’ve actually burned, I’d say. A good mix of healthy diet and regular exercise should do the trick, though!
Amara,
I have been trying to figure out if the calories burned on the elliptical/treadmill machines are accurate as well. I have been eating better but the regular exercise part is where I need more motivation. I am going to get back on the exercise wagon today with a 3 mile run…I think that I may have over done it the first couple of weeks and burned out. Thank you for stopping by and for your response
There is a big debate about this Ballu, while you are correct in saying that excess calories cause a build up of fat some disagree that the best way to lose weight is to lower your calorie intake. Much better to re purpose those calories without having to do massive amounts of exercise.
Dave
You make a great point Dave, the fact of the matter is that we all lose weight differently. The idea of lowering the amount of calorie one takes in a great idea just as long as they don’t go overboard and starve their body of necessary nutrients. I have made that mistake in the part and it led to more weight gain and it left me feeling weak and cranky. I do hope that people make an effort at looking at the food they eat and how it will affect their body and overall health.
